I de 13 år jeg boede i USA, - spillede jeg en del musik der ovre. -- Jeg fandt sammen med blandt andet disse gutter. - Vi dannede orkesteret: " THE OUTSIDERS:"--- Og havde et hit der solgte over en million plader." Time wont let me." --- Og vi turnerede meget det næste års tid. --- Og mødte mange spænde personer, som Niel Dimond, Gene Pitney, The Macoys / Hang on Slupy. The Hootenany Singers / senere Abba. --- Og Dina Ross & the Suprems, The Temptations og utallige flere sang stjerner. _______________________________________ In English: I lived in the US for 13 years from 1957 - 1970, -- I played a lot of music over there, and these guys here, The Outsiders was one of the 3 groups I was plaing with. -- We had a million seller hit caled: Time won´t let me. --We toured most of the US in the 10 monts I was in the group. --- On the Gene Pitney tour that last´d 6 weeks, we played in 34 states. --- But as hundreds of other groups we got taken for a hayride and did not get much out of it money ways, - but we have a lot of good memories even thou it was wery hard work. - in the 10 monts I was with them, we had about 14 days to our selves. --- We meet a lot of recording stars like, Niel Dimond, Diana Ross and the supreems, The Temptations, Gene Pitney, The Macoys, The Hootenany Singers/later they became ABBA, -Glenn Barry, Bobby Goldsboroug, and many more klimbing stars. Before The Outsiders Tom King Started a group called: The Starfires in the fall of 1958 only 16 years old, - I joyned him a feew monts later, --- that was the roots of The Outsiders that made the hit record in 1966, --- But as all hard working groups and bands around the world, it took 7-8 years of hard gigs and practise, working at all houers, besides the daytime jobs.-- We had this dream, if we ceept at it long enough, we would one day get to be famus. But it was not all gravy from the start. --- But finally one day, it was there right in our face !!! The fast tune you hear on the top page, is one of the better Starfire tunes we called: "Stronger then Dirt" or as the band tised me about, - they called it STRONGER THEN MERT. he-he-he!!! Oh I´m whailing on my basspart on that tune. And I didn´t miss a lick even when it started to speed up. --- I hope you will Injoy this reading, even thou its not good gramm. There is enoug stuff here to write a whole dog gone book in the 13 years I lived in The US. --- Somtimes Tom called me a DP. --- But I was not deported. I was just precicly where I always had wanted to be, -- Since I ,in Denmark, first time around 1954 heard Elvis Presleys voice over Lusemburg (on USA Armed forces Radio station.) WEEELLL since ma´ baby left me, I found a new place to dwell, ect. ect.-Heartbreak hotel.!!! Right there on the midlewave chanel on the old tube radio.-- ( A real old type, it got so hot with the big old bulbs inside, that I would almost burn my ear cause I could not get close enough. FM and Stereo did not exist then, --- so here I was with my head practicly inside the speaker, --- cause I whantet to get every word every sound every sillabel I could get out of that old radio. I said WAAAU was that sooo good !!!! when he was done.( In danish ofcause, I didn´t speak english at 14 years of age.) --- I was sold, I just had to get over there and check it out, no doubt what so ever. --- DP??? - NO WAY dude!!! I got to ROCK-NOW-HEAVY-AND- FAST!!! --- So I did, despite many heartakes, I wouldn´t have mised a second of it. No how -no way !!! My nick name was: "Mad-man-Madsen", -- cause I plaied with a lot of energy behind my bass, as if I was about to go over the edge. --- At times I was called "The great Dane" --- Why I don knoe, cause there was no dog in me. - I used to say: - I am the great dane that didn´t go to the dogs, - manly cause I stay´d awy from drugs. Oh I have tryed mary-jo a couple of times, but it got me depressed, so I did not expiriment with other things. --- Cause I always whanted to stay sober so I realy could feal life as it rely is, - not behind som unserten foggy memory, - or on acid trips. -- Nop, thats not Mert, - cause Merts for real.

Dette sjove billede - taget hos en Urmager, - skulle jo relatere til vores sangtittel: "Time wont let me", - på dansk: "Tiden tillader mig det ikke." - Og da det har noget med TID at gøre var det jo nærliggende at bruge dette som motiv for reklamen.-Jeg kigger gennem et urværk, nr 2 person fra venstre.

The Outsiders på vej til Memphis

De koncerter vi ikke kunne nå med bilen, måtte vi jo nå med et fly i stedet. De 10 måneder jeg var med i orkesteret, var der ialt 14 dage til os selv, ellers var vi enten i studioet eller på turneer konstant.

Fra een af vore mange sessions i Cleveland Recording Studio

Ind imellem blev der i pauserne taget et par billeder, - Her i det gamle Cleveland Recording Studio. --- Hvor den altid venlige og super dygtige teknikker: Kenn Hammond, sad og tryllede med en 8 spors Studer båndoptager. --- Han var meget dygtig og lidt af en mirakkel mager, - det var jo noget mere primitive forhold man havde den gang.

En af de sidste singles plader jeg var med på.

I den korte tid jeg var i Bandet: The Outsiders, skal jeg lige love for at der blev tilbragt mange timer i studiet. --- Det blev til 3 LP´er og en 4-5 single plader på 10 måneder. --- Det er jo ganske uhørt i dag, hvor det svarer til en 3-4 års produktion for en normal rock gruppe.

Vi nåede op på 5 pladsen med " Time wont let me "i plademagasinerne: " BILLBOARD" og "KASHBOX" - de to top magasiner som alle DJ´s rettede sig efter.
